"Making Irrational, Rational" at Alcatraz from July 2016 to February 2017. Incorporating prison vernacular, "Football numbers" (slang for long prison sentences), and math the piece challenges the viewer to address whether irrationally long sentences for minor offenses are justified and should they be shortened to make them more rational. This was done by shortening the irrational number PI which is a way to make the resulting number rational. The jerseys were "hung out to dry" on hemp rope (an apt description of what society does to these people and their families.) click here for more pictures
